How the math works
- Watts → kilowatts. Watts ÷ 1,000 = kW. A 100 W bulb is 0.1 kW.
- kW × hours = energy. kW × hours of use = kilowatt-hours (kWh). Cycling appliances (fridge, water heater) multiply by their duty cycle first.
- Hours → billing periods. Weekly hours ÷ 7 = per day. A month is billed as 30 days, a year as 365.
- kWh × rate = cost. Your plan’s price per kWh turns energy into money. Tiered plans apply each tier’s rate to the slice of monthly kWh inside it; time-of-use splits kWh into peak and off-peak.
Everything on this page is an estimate — real bills add fixed fees, taxes, and vary with season. But the relative ranking of your appliances is reliable, and that’s what tells you where to act.
